Well I have been successful installing arch linux with this laptop, although it was extremely trying. It gets complicated due to UEFI and SecureBoot, but I believe it should work with ubuntu as well....
Thus far for me any attempts to install x86 libs required by x86 packages simply replaces all the x64 ones, completely breaking the package manager and completely screwing with the way ubuntu works....
It would seem that you have to accumulate 50 posts to edit certain data on your profile? It says I don't have permission. Its seriously a non issue, I'm just nit-picking lol
I believe I read that the Linux 3.0 kernel (which is in 11.10) consumes much more power than the old kernel. More power = more electricity which = hotter. I have also noticed that unity takes up more...
Ok, got one more small, tiny, almost unimportant question. How do I update my profile to say I run 11.10? Says I don't have permission to when I go to "edit profile". Seriously doesn't matter, but it...
I ban you for Joining in February
Have you tried to login using the Unity 2d desktop? Its different..... but you can get used to it. You can also try installing Gnome 3 or KDE and see if you have better luck with those. So far no...
Well tried the CD upgrade with the same results. Guess I shall take tehowe's advice and do a clean boot. Thank you all for your support :)
Thank you very much Tehowe, I'll give it a shot tomorrow if the cd upgrade fails. Its already taken all day between backup, upgrades, then subsequent restoration and I am tired.
Yeah probably should have done that, its from a laptop anyway. I would prefer not to clean install with all the applications I have accumilated over time. I downloaded a copy of both versions I need...
I have been using 10.04 since it was released and have been and will continue to be very happy with it. So today I decided to try to upgrade (figured it was time after a year and a half) so after a...
I only own 3 games, so does anyone know how well the frame rate will be on either Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, or Tales of Phantasia. So far, the Frame rate is something between 10-15 a sec. Just...
And its a crappy intel chipset too. Well before I switched to linux, I would be able to get something like 30fps on windwaker (I only own 3 games), and something tells me I should be able to get at...
Ok, after some trial and error, I managed to compile a working version of the dolphin emulator. With my *cough* inferior hardware, I am only getting about 15fps, so I was wondering how I could write...
Unfortunately for me it was stuck on the left and the whole file system had to be moved to the left to extend it. But overall it was maybe an hour and Gparted handled it just fine.
Well the latest version of hplip from their website seems to have done the trick. Still no scanner function, but from what I have read its a very common and well known problem. A reply from HP is "We...
Well its actually the 1055 j410 AiO, and I'm still having no luck :( Just got the hplip from the HP website, Ill give it a shot when I get home and see how that goes.
Seem to be having problems getting a HP deskjet 1050 j410 to work at all under lucid. The add a printer section just sees it as a 1000c and doest let me print, scan, or anything. Suggestions?
Yeah unfortulately with that damn dell utilities, the recovery partition, and windows, I had no choice but to create an extended partition to put a real OS in. And actually, it did let me do it. I...
Well swap was already off in the live cd, it only gave me the option for swapon. Any other suggestions? Still wouldn't let me resize it :(
Yes I'm using the live cd, only booted back up to post this and to take the screenshot, but I didnt try to swapoff sda6, Ill reboot and give it a try.
Hello everyone! I am a complete newbie when it comes to all things linux, having just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop from wubi. Having loved it so much, I gave it its own partition and moved it...
