Would the window manager be xfwm4? That looks the most likely.
Only Scilab is affected, no problems at all with other programs.
Scilab runs fine in Ubuntu 11.10 it's just Xubuntu which has...
No dice with that:-
barry@barry-GA-870A-UD3:~$ sudo xfwm4 --daemon
[sudo] password for barry:

Not sure what causes this but in xubuntu 11.10, when opening scilab gui the window appears in the top left of the screen with no -,+,X in the top bar.
The window is unmoveable though scilab...
Sounds as if you have some hardware problem. I would use memtest to check the ram as a first approach.
Good luck.
Then again TI use both z80's and 68000's in their calculator range, which is a respectable job for any chip!
On the other hand I have a 68000 on a single board system which I regularly insult...
I have the same problem in file-roller on lubuntu 11.10 as soon as I drag a file from an archive the pc crashes and only a restart will get it going again!

Thanks for that but I just tried it and there was no change in the file-roller bug.
Should just give a description of my system:

Just installed Lubuntu on my machine and love it.Only real problem I've encountered is that file roller drag-drop causes the PC to crash. Only way out is a reboot!
File-roller does give an error...
Book me up for 10 year duration,I hate it when you just get everything just so then have to change OS version!

Hello and thanks for reading this, I've been playing around with scilab,(nothing very deep, just starting out).
The problem I have that needs explanation is this
:-

Just a guess but maybe you're using a colour depth that is too shallow or perhaps to many colours for the filter?
Any way good luck and perhaps you would be better to put your question on...
I would suspect something is wrong with the PC. Does the CD pass it's file test on boot? I assume you have the correct 'bitness' for the pc.
Might be worth running the memory test program on the...
Edit: For relevance.
I don't think you can add extra frequencies, it's all down to the capabilities of your cpu. Mine has four available frequencies, the CPU I ran before (An Intel q6600) only had...
Try installing cpufrequtils, it worked for me.
good luck .. Barry
I would of thought,('though I'm not certain), that the router would show up even if it's encrypted with WPA.
Can't think of anything else at the moment, but perhaps someone with a more intimate...
Sounds like a problem with the router.
* is the wireless enabled in the router? I assume you are using a router, if so you can log on to the web interface through a browser to check its settings.

Thanks for that, I let these things worry me, when I know that the installation seems to be working fine! I'll mark this one as solved I guess. Thanks again .. Barry

Yes unity 2d is running and your comment makes sense as the graphics are very smooth, (to smooth for noveau I'de say).

I am a little puzzled by this. Using the app to test for video support gives the following result:

Thanks for the replies, I have settled (for the moment) with having the frequency scaling widget in the top bar. If I knew more about conky though I'm sure that it would be possible to have a scaling...
Hello and thanks for reading this. No biggie but how can I show a bar with a cpu frequency scale. My CPU varies its freq between 0.8 and 3.3 GHZ and I would like a bar to show this, is it possible?
