  1. [ubuntu] Re: Can you write to an external ntfs drive with a live ubuntu disc?

    Worked beautifully! :)

    Thanks!

Don't seem to have a medal icon or Thread Tools->mark as solved though :(
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Can you write to an external ntfs drive with a live ubuntu disc?

Another thing - will Ubuntu also automount the hard disk that is *in* her computer (also NTFS)? The one she needs to copy data from? Where will it mount it to?
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Can you write to an external ntfs drive with a live ubuntu disc?

Thanks for the quick answer, I'll let you know how it goes.
  4. [ubuntu] SOLVED: Can you write to an external ntfs drive with a live ubuntu disc?

I'm trying to help a friend remotely (meaning I can't do complicated things) who's got a broken version of Windows - she wants to backup her important data before re-installing an OS.

    I suggested...

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox 3.0 final

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox 3.0 final

To install it without a package manager I would create a directory called /opt, if you don't have it already:

    mkdir /opt
copy your downloaded firefox into that directory, change to it and then...

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox 3.0 final

That sounds like alpha-8 to me, not the final release... I'm surprised it's not being backported, isn't that what gutsy-backports is for? FF is the default Ubuntu browser and a 2->3 update is quite...

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox 3.0 final

    I was wondering about that!

    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox 3.0 final

Does anyone know if the final be available in the gutsy (7.10) repos as well? Anyone know when?

  13. Poll: Re: Share with the community your gutsy install/upgrade experience

The upgrade from 7.04 didn't finish, it said it was unable to install libxml-libxml-perl, perl-simple and update-manager. Then it quit. No idea what was going on and scared to reboot, as it had...
