finally solved it !!!
The problem was because I was having vpnc installed and the /etc/resolv.conf entries were not removed after I disconnect vpn.

The culprit was found to be "resolvconf"...

Searched for the error and found that "dcopserver" crash is the cause and running it solves the problem. Don't know how it is crashing on visiting some web pages.

Got some useful debug info by running firefox in the terminal.
