Re: The Hunt for Red October

There were a lot of attacks in Russia, so unlikely to be them, I wager

Re: The Hunt for Red October

This is hard to discuss without getting political, but this is halfway straight out of something like Ghost in the Shell

Re: What games are people playing on Linux?

Recently, I played through Unity of Command, and it's DLC. Hardcore turn based strategy, but very accessible.
Been trying to figure out Conquest of Elysium 3, and as always, playing Dungeon Crawl...

    Re: Desktop Environment Preferences

I don't dislike Unity, and I thought it took interesting directions after Gnome 2, but KDE just "feels" right, to me.

I like having access to a bunch of configuration options, or just leave things...

Re: Get 32 or 64 bit?

Our laptop runs 64 bit, and I've had no problems at all. 32 bit software runs fine too.

Poll: Re: Is Linux really not standard?

I've bought dozens of games for linux, most of which simply have a tarball with a generic binary. I click the icon and it runs. No fuss.
  8. Gamecube and wii games to recommend?

I recently got a wii as a freebie, so may as well get some fun out of it. Im mostly interested in RPG's, turn based games (ala Front Mission and Final Fantasy tactics) and maybe some FPS stuff....

    Re: STEAM on Linux BETA

I've been having the above mentioned issue with achievements too. It will lose focus and cause a crash. There was a mention on the steam forums that its a known issue, so hopefully it's fixed soon :)

Re: Killing Floor on Steam performace

I haven't clocked FPS, but on my old 8600 GT card, it runs quite well. THere's a tiny bit of chop here and there, but overall it's very playable. I'd hazard a guess that it's a driver issue then.

    Re: STEAM on Linux BETA

as an aside, there's a sale so a good time to grab some stuff. I just picked up Red Orchestra :)
  12. Re: Computer games of today than older games

For me "old school RPG" is more stuff like Pool of Radiance and Eye of the Beholder :)
Consoles were not common when I grew up but everyone had an Amiga

    But all good stuff.
  13. Re: Computer games of today than older games

It's worth noting that as a fan of rogue-like RPG's, linux is doing quite well :)

You can sink countless hours into games like Angband and Dungeon Crawl, and the detail makes games like Dragonage...

    Re: Humble indie bundle 7

Happy to see Grimrock on there. Only a couple of the steam keys work in linux atm, so hopefully over time, more of the titles get uploaded to steam.

    But a solid purchase :)

Re: What a year for Linux

Very cool video. It's breathtaking to think about just how many places linux really is, nowadays.
  16. Red Tide expansion for Unity of Command is available

For those of you interested in turn based WW2 strategy in the vein of the old Panzer General series, this might be of interest.

Unity of Command is pretty much a modern successor to the old "Five...
  17. Re: How They Are Expending The Hobbit Into 3 Movies

Is it wrong that when Azog showed up, my first thought was "I've killed that guy in Angband!".

Roguelikes aside, I enjoyed the movie. I figure they'll change things up a bit to fit a movie setup,...

    Re: Free Software - Stallman

Yeah, Stallman is kind of a fundamentalist. THat's why we don't want him to be in charge. He's the guy who can yell what is on his mind, because he can do so without too much consequence.

Re: Why all the Gnome Shell Hate?

I used it for a while back in it's beta, and thought it was pretty cool. I'd probably have seriously considered making it the prime desktop environment for me, if I hadn't fallen in love with KDE4 so...

    Re: Free Software - Stallman

Stallman is one of those people you need to have around, to point out what nobody else dares say.

You don't want him in charge, but you need him around in a world where everything about your life...
  22. Re: Computer games of today than older games

This is generalizing heavily as there's innovative AAA titles, and derivative indie titles, but generally there's certain games you are only going to get in the mainstream (big games like Skyrim) and...

    Re: Desura Game Distribution Platform

I just downloaded Desurium from a PPA. It seems a bit more stable, though I still had crashes if trying to install multiple games. Stability is better though

    Irritatingly, Desurium doesn't filter...

GOG. Duke Nukem 3D free today

Looks like they have Duke Nukem 3D for free today, so if you want to relive your childhood, here's a good chance :)

Runs fine with WINE as far as I could tell, from playing the first 2 levels.
