Here's my config for dual monitors in portrait mode:

cvt tool didn't work for me either.
My particular model is QNIX QX2710
When I got it was not working but I've fixed with "modeline". There's a lot of info on this.
However when I upgrade to kubuntu 13.04 raring the 'kde plasma...
Also you might be interested in what I've found so far.
1. Undervolting of i7 2620m seems to be not possible. Or at least so far I'm not able to find a solution.

I own x220 and x200s.
You have to setup everything using xrandr (man xrandr).
I have exactly the same ThinkPad and the same problem. Googling gives only the same reports with X220.
