Somehow, unplugging everything from the display, and rebooting the computer first without a monitor, and then with the monitor worked to restore my options. Still, I'd like to know why this happened...
Hi all, I went to sleep with a high resolution screen and no care in the world, and I woke up with an ugly 1024X768 resolution plaster on my monitor, and that's the highest option in the default...
24 hour bump.
Edited the first post to include a nice summation so far as well as this new info:
Recently I booted into recovery mode with a known faulty driver installed. The last terminal output displayed...
Well, ndiswrapper seems to have failed as well.
Couple odd things about that. After installing it and the driver recommended by the source forge wiki, I had the driver running, but wlan0 wasn't...
I can't try it now, but would installing the drivers that came on the CD in wine, then using ndiswrapper be plausible? IIRC ndiswrapper is for drivers already located on your harddrive in a windows...
Tried using compat-wireless. As soon as I modprobe'd the appropriate driver from it, same freezing. ctrl+alt+f1 doesn't work either. It's a complete system freeze.
I found another way. I added the driver to /etc/modules. This has gotten my computer to be bootable. The problem is, I still have no wireless connectivity. I've tried two things, both basically...
That did not work, but perhaps I'm doing it wrong. Does anyone know how to tell a system to load drivers at the start?
This is just a hunch, but here's what I'm trying right now: I think I found what specific chipset the card uses (Ralink 2860), so I downloaded the linux driver for that on to a usb, which I will...
Solved this issue, but another has cropped up not appropriate for this subform (but related to this one, oddly enough.
Made this thread if you want to check it out:...
Updated version of my difficulties:
Basically, trying to get a wireless card to work on my Desktop. It's a linksys wmp600n. The problem is thus: so far, any driver other than the rt2860sta module...
Hi all. I recently built a computer out of components ordered off new egg. it boots up fine it seems, but in trying to install Ubuntu on it (multiple versions have been tried, 12.04, 11.10, 11.04,...
Hi all. Trying to run the pokemon simulator found here: http://trac.poke-lab.com/.
It ran fine before upgrading to 10.10, with the minor issue that closing out of a battle would close it with...
ATI is just as good as nVidia, the only problem is you have to research your particular card first. But you should do that anyways.
Are you sure you need a gaming laptop? For the budget in...
Doesn't canonical only really do open source software? With the large majority of games being closed source, it would seem to me to be against their business pattern to start a gaming distribution...
How would it change anything? Gaming companies would still make games for windows and linux users would still have to buy windows. I guess it would be slightly more convenient, but hardly...
With my limited understanding of french, it looks like you've got a segmentation fault. From the torcs faq on source forge:
Like forced to open source their software? Because that would be highly unethical.
So I'm trying to create a spreadsheet that operates in hexadecimal, binary (maybe), and decimal, for fairly large values. While openoffice does handle hexadecimal fine, if you convert it to decimal...
Something of that sort seems like it would be easier to make than wine, at the very least, as mac uses OpenGL right?
Recently, I became a bit wary of my network's security, but lacking the ability to get into the admin page of the router (I'm subletting, so no one told me the pw), I decided to use wireshark to...
Wouldn't that entail the source code being released? I don't think that's going to happen, but then again, I'm probably misunderstanding something.
I am trying to use Hamachi to connect with my friend via Diablo 2 tcp/ip games. He runs windows 7 (iirc, it may be vista), and I run Ubuntu 10.4, with wine 1.2rc7. I can host a game just fine, and...
cd dosbox-0.74
sudo make uninstall
I think.
