    [ubuntu] Re: Lemur vs. Gazelle

Is a larger capacity battery available, or just another of the same size to swap out? How big is it, and what does it weigh? You mention how much smaller the power supply is, that is a good thing! ...

    [ubuntu] Lemur vs. Gazelle

I am considering buying a laptop to replace my trusty white Darter. (Carl, perhaps you should have an option to "compare" computers on the S76 page, rather than have to open two windows/tabs to...

    [SOLVED] Re: forget hotspot

Cinnamon does have a way to open the NM, but it's only a left click. It does offer a "forget network", but it apparently does not work as intended, as it never forgot the hotspot.

    [SOLVED] Re: forget hotspot

Obviously Unity and Cinnamon DE's handle things a little differently, and normally I am quite happy they do! Using unity (which I can't stand, and just doesn't work for me the way I use a computer)...

    [SOLVED] forget hotspot

I was recently in a hotel that did not have wireless, only a wired connection for 15 Euros. I wanted a wireless connection for the company supplied tablet, and made a half-hearted effort to create a...

[ubuntu] Re: Should i buy System76's Lemur Ultra?

Keep us posted (as you always do) and I'll probably end up buying one. Couldn't get to your office last week, timing just didn't work out.

[ubuntu] Re: Should i buy System76's Lemur Ultra?

I could put it on plastic, but am not in that much of a hurry. Am expecting a couple of good sized checks soon, and would rather pay cash anyway.

My trusty white darter has been a real trooper...

[ubuntu] Re: Should i buy System76's Lemur Ultra?

Does this mean there will be a new Lemur model coming out soon?

I may have time to stop in and see one, if you have one in the shop Monday, will keep you advised.

[all variants] Re: New Laptop: The adventure begins

    Actually, the quote was:

I would think since there are no qualifiers there, it would include Windows of any flavor as well.

I think more than faith in Linux, it's faith in the quality...

[all variants] Re: New Laptop: The adventure begins

I am very glad it works for you. I am not a big fan of keyboard shortcuts, and after using it several days (and more than once in the last 6 months) on both a USB stick, and as a virtual OS, I...

[all variants] Re: New Laptop: The adventure begins

I was just perusing the forums looking for this answer. No, System76 drivers do not work under Mint without some hacking. There is a thread on the System76 forum telling you how to easily hack Mint...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

It seems to have worked, but will hold off on marking this solved for a few days at least as the terminal behavior has been anything but consistent. (It started as an occassional thing, then became...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

I'll try that to see if it has any effect, but it's been working flawlessly for literally years. Don't understand why it would suddenly become a problem when it's been working with this release, as...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

The terminal now almost always asks for the sudo password regardless of how I open one with a single exception. I have a few bash scripts that I often run. When I double click on these, and...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Should I upgrade from 10,04 to 11.10?

You might already know this, but those commands can be done in one CLI entry:

    sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback gnome-tweak-tool

You can install any number of programs in one swipe,...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

OK, it's no showing new behavior. All the commands you gave earlier do the same thing except for

    bash --norc

    Now, that returns:

    bash-4.1$

  19. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

OK, let me ask you a question here. Should typing "bash" in an open terminal just start a new instance in the same window, or should a new window appear?

When I type bash into an existing...

    [ubuntu] Re: flpsed menus

I won't mark this solved, because it's not (though it may be in 11.10 - haven't gotten there yet), but the author pointed me to a work around. When you go to a menu item drag down the menu item, and...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

Actually, I can also hit ^C three times and it drops asking me for the sudo password, but will do as you ask.

No, I do not. In fact, if I type exit again, and close the terminal, it does not...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

I had already looked at that, but looked again (can't hurt, right?) and both are indeed unchecked.

  23. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

TTY works normally, as does running an executable script in a terminal.

    ~/.profile:

    # ~/.profile: executed by the command interpreter for login shells.
    # This file is not read by bash(1),...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: terminal asks for sudo password when opening

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the file you want me to post is global in nature, isn't it? IOW, it would effect all users. Since this is only happening in my account,...

    [ubuntu] flpsed menus

Don't know how many people even know that flpsed is a available, or how well it works to fill out non-fillable PDF forms, but I use it from time to time.

Today however when I went to use it to...
