Re: HOWTO: Install Rubyripper on Ubuntu

The instructions on the Hydrogen Audio wiki show you how to compile from source. To uninstall, you have to download a Rubyripper tarball, extract it, and run
    sudo make uninstall

Re: Google launches WebM video format with VP8 in it

    Read closer:

As of right now, Microsoft is supporting VP8 video as much as it supports Theora video; that is, not at all. Unless the user goes out and installs the VP8 codec, VP8 video won't work...

Re: Google launches WebM video format with VP8 in it

I think the mission for the Ogg people is to promote free media formats. They're probably pretty happy about this. :)

Re: HOWTO: Install Rubyripper on Ubuntu

I'm not sure all the information you gave is entirely accurate. According to the cdparanoia page, its latest release was in 2008, not 2001. And I'm not sure why you say it's Linux-only software;...

Re: Valve confirms Steam coming to Linux

Exactly. Until there is an official announcement or download available from Valve, I'll remain skeptical.

    NanoNote

Have you guys seen this? It's a tiny sub-$100 computer built with fully open-source hardware, a full QWERTY keyboard, and ships with OpenWrt. Seems kinda interesting, but I'm not exactly sure what...

Re: HOWTO: Install Rubyripper on Ubuntu

Is Abcde still being actively developed? I checked the website and it seems like there haven't been any updates in a while. Although, I suppose it's been close to a year since Rubyripper has been...

Re: What are your privacy "killer apps"

I love the Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out (TACO) Firefox add-on. It's a very simple way to secure your privacy while surfing the web. It's developed by security researcher Christopher Soghoian...

[ubuntu] Re: Adobe Flash problems on Ubuntu 9.10

    Thanks for the reply, bedhead!

Unfortunately, I followed your instructions for installing 64-bit Flash and Firefox segphaults! I had to revert back to 32-bit Flash from the repositories.

    And...

[ubuntu] Re: Adobe Flash problems on Ubuntu 9.10

I had tried to manually install the 64-bit version as well; however, Firefox kept segphaulting every time I tried to launch it after I'd installed 64-bit Flash.

[ubuntu] Adobe Flash problems on Ubuntu 9.10

I've been using Ubuntu Karmic since about June.

Re: HOWTO: Install Rubyripper on Ubuntu

I'm really looking forward to Ion netbooks.

Why are people saying they will be too expensive? I haven't heard anything about Ion pricing yet.

    Re: Google to Acquire On2

I think calling Theora and Dirac "superior" to H.264 might be a bit of a stretch. In terms of licensing, Theora/Dirac are hands down superior to H.264, but in terms of actual performance, I'm not so...
