the volume sliders in Ekiga for both, in- and output, are stuck to zero -- each time I drag them they go back to zero as soon as I unpress the mouse button. Sound generally, however, works...

As none of the methods mentioned worked for me I just want to leave another note on this topic for those still seeking.

I always had the problem that the printer simply cut off a little on the top...
