Yes you can use it. There's no reason it shouldn't work.

[ubuntu] (Solved) fglrx: stuck at 1024x768

    Hi,

I've upgraded to Hardy and now my resolution is maximum 1024x768. This is weird because in feisty I could go up to 1280x1024, which is the max resolution my LCD monitor can handle.

    I have a...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Installed fglrx driver - fglrxinfo still says 'MESA'

Are you using compiz with XGL? That was my case and I had to remove XGL and use AIGLX (don't forget to enable the composite extension in xorg.conf).

Re: HOWTO: TV-out for legacy ATI cards using GATOS

You could try to plug the LCD via standard VGA. But I have also done this and when I switch to 800x600 to get tv-out the monitor gets out of range. See if this work for you.

I see in the gatos site that

That's exactly what I get on my LCD monitor "non supported mode" for a range of "H: 24.9 Hz // V: 22.1 Hz", which makes me think that the monitor is trying to...

Re: why did you switch to ubuntu?

    I was tired of:

    - Cracking programs I'll like to have.
    - Firewall, spyware and virus problems.

    So I:

    - Started to use open source programs.
    - Started to learn about Linux and Ubuntu.

I've discovered lately (via last.fm) Silversun Pickups. As a Nirvana-fan-almost-30-grunge-90-child I recommend you this band. It's like the Smashing Pumpkins molested by Sonic Youth.

Until amd64 packages for cinelerra 2.1 are available, you could try to download the 2.0-1 rpm version, and convert it to a deb file. I did, and I have cinelerra with capture support, etc... :)
