I found something in the meantime... iftop. it will resolve the hosts and tell me the current network usage, however it does not appear to save it. Good enough for now :)

I have searched high and low for this with no luck. Is there an application out there that will monitor say a specific protocal (ssh in this case) or traffic to a specific host?
