Any idea on how to solve this? Should I try another version? This is Ubuntu 12.04.3 64bits on an Asus X201e, being installed from a pendrive. (For those who read my other posts, yep, it's me, I seem...

  5. [SOLVED] Re: Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

*moved to new post, I guess it's another kind of problem now*
  6. [SOLVED] Re: Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

Yep, I know, I saw on the conditions that damaging Windows 8 would be enough excuse to void warranty. I bought a 16gb pendrive, nevermind, it's an extra money I didn't plan to spend but it might come...
  7. [SOLVED] Re: Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

Thanks a lot!, I'm still having a little trouble here, I have a 8gb usb disk to use, and my external 1Tb HD. But Win 8 doesn't offer me to make a partition recovery disk, it asks me for a 16gb empty...
  8. [SOLVED] Re: Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

Well, I'm having trouble trying to make it boot from USB. Actually, I can't get it to show me BIOS. I've tried pressing F2 (which is the instruction on ASUS website), F12 and delete (instructions on...
  9. [SOLVED] Re: Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

When I replied that, your answer read only three letters "nvm", probably by some kind of weird mistake (I swear). I googled, read "nvm" meant "nevermind" and felt a bit appalled. Then, after I posted...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

I saw that, and it seems to be a mistake on Asus's website. X201E is a small notebook, something between a netbook and a notebook. Like a netbook, it has no DVD/CD drive, so that wouldn't work.
  11. [SOLVED] Re: Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

"nevermind the risks" you mean? eventually, maybe, but anyhow I'd feel better if I could get some tips to prevent things from going wrong. Besides, the warranty in my country might expire if I change...
  12. [SOLVED] Evaluating risks with Asus X201E for installing dual boot

Hi! I've just bought an Asus x201e notebook. It came with Windows 8, which seems to work rather slow and quirky (at least for me) on this 2gb-RAM pretty little thing. I saw on the Asus page that this...

[ubuntu] Re: Problems with Agfa SnapScan 1212 scanner

I've been there and downloaded a backend file, but since I don't know what a backend is I'm not very sure whether I downloaded the right one nor how to use it (newbie ignorance)

[ubuntu] Problems with Agfa SnapScan 1212 scanner

    Hi everyone,

I've drifted through help page after help page, and I still can't get my scanner to work. I bought this used scanner because it was the only thing listed among the supported...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Installing 9.10 version - Partitioning issues

My HD is all in one piece, I'd chosen not to make partitions back when I bought my PC and had Windows XP installed.

As for my CD, I didn't check it for errors, I was planning to do so the next...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Installing 9.10 version - Partitioning issues

I've checked the Graphic Install. It's meant for 8.x.

    What's gparted?
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Installing 9.10 version - Partitioning issues

I've already made a defrag, and also left nearly 50gb of free space in an 80gb disk. I've made backups for every important file I have.

    I get the options

    - Erase and use entire disk --->(right...
