    Re: Nexuiz ati radeon help

Nope. Provided you have a r300g compatible chip (r5xx and earlier), you only need to update your packages with the ppa.

    Re: Nexuiz ati radeon help

For r300g in Ubuntu you donīt. If you use the xorg-edgers ppa, thatīs the default driver it installs (they donīt package r300c anymore). For r600g you do need to configure some files.

    Re: Nexuiz ati radeon help

With the r300g driver (Gallium3D) you get OpenGL2.1 compared to OpenGL1.5 with the "classic" drivers (what Ubuntu loads by default). Granted, GLSL (what most 3D intensive Linux games use for eye...

Last time I tried Nexuiz with that chip under Windows, it actually ended up being playable; same settings, but was able to get upwards of 20fps. Mind you that was a long time ago and on an older...

    Re: Nexuiz ati radeon help

I got a RS480 here (also a Xpress 200M chip). The latest Nexuiz does work, but incredibly slow (even at 800x600 on low details); 20fps max, though for most of the game I get 5-10fps. Mind you I...

Onlive would be one of the last things you would want on Linux. The stuff is even worse than WINE when it comes to Linux games (technical, philosophical, or any other reason you can think of). In...

Poll: Re: HowTo: Installing and using KernelCheck

After I discovered the kernel ppa I stopped using kernelcheck, but I have gone back to it due to the recent ppa packages not playing nice with my laptop for some reason. Like the new interface, even...

Causes black screen on boot for me. Laptop with a RS480. Boots fine if I disable DRI. Crap, time to get dirty I guess.

  13. [ubuntu] Re: No hardware drivers for ATI Radeon X850XT (I want to take advantage of my video c

Check the command glxinfo to see if you got 3d acceleration:

    glxinfo | grep "renderer string"

That should come back with something mentioning DRI and Mesa. If it says anything about software...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: No hardware drivers for ATI Radeon X850XT (I want to take advantage of my video c

Your card is no longer supported by current driver versions. The last driver release to work with the card is 9.3, which won't work on Ubuntu newer than 9.04. If you want to use newer versions of...

Re: is xorg the only ati driver for lucid today?

It should technically be possible to downgrade xservers, but to be honest that's more trouble than it's worth. Fglrx 10.4 has initial Lucid support, so just another month or so to go.

If you got a spare Windows install. You can use GPU-Z to extract the card's BIOS and the use RBE to open it. Flashing the card is rather simple too.

Re: ATI 3870 fan runs at 100% with radeon driver

It depends on the particular BIOS. I got two HD3850s from different vendors and the fan settings in BIOS are different; on is set to turn full speed at 80*C and the other does not have any options...

Re: ATI 3870 fan runs at 100% with radeon driver

I only know how to do it under Windows with Radeon BIOS Editor; it lets you modify things like fan settings. Most BIOS have a very lax fan setting (they don't rev up until the card hits like +90*C)...

Re: ATI 3870 fan runs at 100% with radeon driver

Those options you got on your xorg.conf only work in UMS mode. Lucid uses KMS for the driver by default, that's why you're getting those warning entries. If you want to use those options, you need...
