    In my limited experience doing this with windows 98se, it can work if donor and donee have same chipset. (perhaps similar chipset is good enough?)

    1st startup runs a wizard to backup the restore partition to optical discs. (but AFAIK blank discs aren't included).
    so the "average Joe" has a *some* chance to know about the partition.
