I use the one built into my laptop (a ThinkPad W520), and it's pretty nice. I use Dvorak as my keyboard layout.

Sorry, I completely forgot about this thread, I'll change it to solved. Here's what I've learned:
* Upgrading to 12.10 (and kernel 3.5) fixed the problem
* FS does not matter, it caused a soft...
When I plug in a USB Flash Drive, my computer begins to operate very slowly and eventually freeze completely. dmesg | tail says that there was a soft lockup. This problem only applies to things that...
Sorry I was unclear, I don't need 8 gigs, I just happen to have an 8 gig ddr3 card already.
I looked at some of the laptops on dell outlet, and those might work for me.

I recently bought a toshiba satellite c655d-s5535 and it sucks (both hardware-wise and compatibility-wise). I am on a somewhat tight budget so cannot spend too much. Has anyone had good luck with any...

I am running ubuntu 11.10 off of a flash drive, and, to increase performance, want to set the color mode to 256 colors. Googling has yielded no results, and I cannot figure out how to do this.
Thanks, but I just found out that I can use

sudo apt-get autoremove in the terminal

I would not install Linux from a USB stick, when I have tried to in the past I have had nothing but trouble(I would use a cd).
However it may work to run

Go into disk utility, if your disk does not show up then it is probably a driver or hardware problem. If it does, then follow these instructions:
In the terminal, run
sudo mkdir...
Try installing allfonts through winetricks. (if this doesn't work(due to checksum error), install corefonts and tahoma)
As long as they are all linux, that should work (Windows is possible, but in such a way that it only works if you boot off of a virtual hard disk linked to your usb stick inside a virtual machine).

One of my friends installed ubuntu and accidentally installed all of his apps under wine (including firefox and silverlight) and it worked (a little slow, but worked)
