Well I actually solved my problem by reinstalling nvidia-185-kernel-source and related packages.

I just tried in .31 and same thing happens (aforementioned errors). If this patch works in .28 it doesn't really help because I still don't have wifi with that kernel - so I won't use it.

The patch shouldn't work with 2.6.31? Will try rebooting into .28 or .30.
