[kubuntu] Re: Kubuntu 13.10 - NetworkManager is not enabled

To be honest, I wouldn't deal with the upgrade at this stage, especially since you don't have a network connection + network-manager crapped out like this. Since 13.10 support ends soon, it would be...

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I had previously looked at the documentation for ecryptfs and had my home directory encrypted with it prior to this move. I was very annoyed by it not being portable...

[ubuntu] Re: Connecting & Transfering files to Galaxy S3?

The easiest method I've found was Airdroid (from Google Play market). Next up was to use adb. I didn't need to work on poor MTP support that way.

[ubuntu] Re: Orphaned inodes on boot

here's the log file from my umountroot file when there are no orphaned inodes (when the filesystem was unmounted cleanly), in case it might be significant:

[ubuntu] Re: Orphaned inodes on boot

a quick update -- I found that if I log off and only then shutdown the computer (through lightdm's login screen), the system unmounts filesystems without problems and I don't get any orphaned inodes...

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Unity takes too long to load after release upgrade to Oneiric

    Thanks for your response :)

I think it takes about a minute or so. It surely feels like it could be faster, as what happens is:

    1. load my desktop wallpaper
    2. wait and wait (on first boot, I...
  18. [ubuntu] Unity takes too long to load after release upgrade to Oneiric

I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10. I had to halt the upgrade mid-process (disk full) but was able to finish it afterwards using apt-get -f and so on. I had to install "lightdm-gtk-greeter" myself for X...

[lubuntu] Re: panp7 slow to post

I'm not from system76. I have a panp7 and I watched your video. The 20 second delay cannot be normal and no one would pay for a laptop like panp7 if it were; I would *call* them for repairs.

[ubuntu] Re: Slow netbook with 11.10

(~4GB is normal for Ubuntu, yes; mine's using around 5.5GB) The memory usage looked fine; not even half of your available ram was being used, even with the cache. Is Lubuntu treating you better?
  25. [ubuntu] Re: machine hacked to download tv shows, movies etc.

Unless it's a rootkit (and I'd assume it is), the following two commands might be of help:

    sudo lsof -i
