  1. [SOLVED] Re: Installing Ubuntu on new computer with UEFI BIOS?

Since you are using two separate hard drives for your Windows and Ubuntu installations, the order of installation does not make any difference. Just make sure that each one boots from its own drive....
  2. Re: Any way to make Ubuntu more like Windows XP or 7?

Install the Mate desktop or replace Ubuntu 10.04 with Linux Mint 17 with the Mate desktop.

[ubuntu] Re: Firefox 'Grays Out' a lot

FYI Firefox 30 on my machine is using 968 megabytes at this time - so 1gb RAM probably isn't nearly enough.
On my 32 bit Windows 7 machines with 3gb RAM I have trouble with Firefox bogging down...
  4. Re: Removing Ubuntu and going back to Windows Vista?

A whole bunch of Macintosh users thought that too. Oops!
Don't bet the farm that there will never be a concerted malware attack on Linux.
In case you are wondering, I don't use an AV program...
  5. Re: Removing Ubuntu and going back to Windows Vista?

I have ordered recovery disk sets from HP for people. I think the cost was about $16 the last time.

    What is 3.04?
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Recovering data from partition after changing NTFS to ext4 - help!

No sweat - just copy all your important data to your hard drive from your backups. You do regularly back up any important files don't you? To at least two places?

[ubuntu] Re: Dual boot windows 7 and ubuntu

I suggest two hard drives, one for Windows and one for Linux. Drives are cheap! During OS installation, I have only one hard drive connected at a time. When both drives are connected and Ubuntu is...

Re: Still as confusing as ever or?

I have done it many times, starting with Windows 3.0, and found it to be relatively easy although that big pile of floppy disks in the early days could be a bit of a pain. The 100+ linux installs I...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: How do I burn music onto a DVD (Ubuntu 12.01)?

It appears that normal CD/DVD writing software does not create audio DVDs. Are you sure your player is compatible with audio DVDs?
Check http://dvd-audio.sourceforge.net/ for possible solutions for...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Sharing printer from Ubuntu server to Windows XP

Maybe it is because I am old and dumb but I have had very poor luck trying to share a printer connected to a Linux machine with a Windows computer on the network. Usually when I got it to work it...
  12. Re: Which is better: AMD Athlon 64 processor 3800+ or Pentium 4?

If the price is low enough on the Pentium computer, what's wrong with having two computers? To me computers are tools and I figure that I could never have too many tools (or toys).

  13. [other] Re: Which of the following laptops is best if I plan to use ubuntu based linux

I don't know which one will work best for Linux (my 2006 model HP DV5000 and my HP Mini 210 have no problems with Linux) but HP laptop reliability has deteriorated badly in the last few years and I...

[ubuntu] Re: Installation on 1998 Pentium III

My first use of Ubuntu was to attempt to resurrect old machines like yours. This was in 2007 and the only version of Ubuntu that provided minimally acceptable performance (acceptable to me, that is)...

    [ubuntu] Re: Windows as default?

Works just fine in Mint 13 so I would think it would be OK in Ubuntu 12.04. I don't presently have an Ubuntu install running but StartUpManager is an Ubuntu program, not a Mint program. I guess I...

  20. [xubuntu] Re: Why windows take up more disk space than the file size? because of Linux?

  21. [other] Re: Trying to burn JPEG files to CD in Brasero

[ubuntu] Re: High RAM usage in Windows 7

OP said he was using WUBI. I have never used WUBI but I think the idea is that Ubuntu is a program running within Win 7. I would expect to see increased memory usage.
