When i install LXDE desktop environment on a Ubuntu 13.10 server and VNC into the desktop, the mouse pointer is the X crosshair. On earlier versions of Ubuntu this is not the case (it's a normal...

Re: Firewall Rules for VPN Connection Only?

Oh nice! Thanks for the tip. I'm a linux noob, so not sure how to go about making that script. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Re: Firewall Rules for VPN Connection Only?

That's it! I had all of that except Port 53 UDP. Now just need to figure out how to close those ports when VPN is disconnected like you said.

Firewall Rules for VPN Connection Only?

I'm trying to use GUFW to setup firewall rules that only allow browsing when connected to an OpenVPN connection. So far I'm not having much luck. I have the Income and Outgoing settings to Deny, and...
  6. How to Autostart OpenVPN Client Connection on Lubuntu?

I'm currently using Network Connections manager to manually make a VPN connection. Is there a way to make the connection automatically when Lubuntu boots?

  7. Re: Browser Scrolling Choppy on LXDE with 512MB Ram

With chromium running I'm using 250 of the 512 RAM. I also noticed that when I change the color depth of the VNC Viewer from 16 bits to 8, things move much faster. Scrolling is normal. I checked...
  8. Re: Browser Scrolling Choppy on LXDE with 512MB Ram

That's my mistake... I left out an important point. This is a desktop environment on Ubuntu server that I access with VNC. I'm not seeing in LXDE how to view installed drivers and it's probably...
  9. Re: Browser Scrolling Choppy on LXDE with 512MB Ram

Hey Bucky Ball, I guess the low RAM is probably the case. I thought LXDE was lighter than those two options, but I'll give them a try.

The code your provided got Command Not Found.

    Edit: I...

    Yes, Ubuntu.
  11. Browser Scrolling Choppy on LXDE with 512MB Ram

I'm using Chromium on a LXDE Desktop. Pages load fast, but the scrolling is lagging and pretty choppy. I've tried enabling GPU Composition and Threaded Composition in Chromium, which seemed to help a...

Re: Encrypt VNC Connection without Shell

Realvnc or Tightvnc. Thanks for the tip! I'll check out Remminia.

Edit: Looks like Remminia is for Linux. They're on Windows or iOS, so this particular vnc viewer won't work. Any other ways to...

    Encrypt VNC Connection without Shell

I have users who are unfamiliar with shell accessing a remote desktop. Is there a way to encrypt the VNC without having to use shell terminal?
  14. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

I used your .vnc/startup code just to check, and no go. Maybe this part of the .vnc log is significant?

xrdb: No such file or directory
    xrdb: can't open file '/home/user1/.Xresources'
  15. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

Bumped RAM up to 2gb, rebooted, restarted VNC and no changes there.

Good thinking on the vnc log. There's some interesting stuff here that may point to some issues. I replaced my local IP with...
  16. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

Yeah, that's my askubuntu post as well. I did mean 512, however I can adjust that up very easily on the fly (running on a cloud server). In fact I have tried by bumping up to 2gb of memory, but that...
  17. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

Before running the installs I did run
    apt-get update
    apt-get upgrade

Is there another way to do this?
  18. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

Small update... I reimaged the VPS with Ubuntu 10.04, installed lxde with tightvnc and everything is working fine. Did the same with Debian 7.2. so seems it has something to do with Ubuntu 12.04.
  19. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

Now that's really weird that you're not having any issues. I'm so confused!
  20. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

Just tried to start vnc manually with no luck. Used these commands. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

    sudo /etc/init.d/vncserver stop
    vncserver -geometry 1280x1024 -depth 16
  21. Re: LXDE-Core + tightvncserver. Chromium won't work

My bad! I think I left the fact that these are running on 64 bit instances of Ubuntu. I don't see how that would be the issue though?
