yeah, you're absolutely right. Deleting the line returned all the boot options to the menu, but update-grub brought the line back
There we go
ls /boot
abi-2.6.35-27-generic-pae memtest86+_multiboot.bin
config-2.6.35-27-generic-pae System.map-2.6.35-27-generic-pae
grub ...
YesWeCan's advice worked nicely. update-grub found two kernels and Windows 7 installation. But when I reboot, the boot menu only shows recovery modes for the two kernels. They boot perfectly well...
I wish I could remember, but clearly it was the wrong way :D
Grub2 is a complete puzzle to me. I think I might have edited the files in /etc/grub.d/
Unfortunately that didn't help. I can still only see the Windows 7 entry in the boot menu :/

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 dual boot. I had removed all but one of the Ubuntu kernels and boot options from grub menu to reduce clutter. Today I ran an update (admittedly, I've been...
I tried to be as explanatory in the title as possible. I have an Acer Aspire 3810T-354G32n running Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.
Almost everything works right (except for suspend, but lets leave that for a...
My new 3810T laptop works great with 64bit Jaunty, yet I have a couple of questions.
How to map a function key? Fn+F2 does not do anything (unlike the other Fn combintions). xev does not see Fn...
Brrr... I remember my dad's Samsumg laptop slowly dying with that sound. As if it had swallowed a knife and would be cutting itself apart from the inside.
I'll have a look at these. It would...
Ok, CHKDSK finished and I am writing this from Windows XP, which now works like a charm :/ Yet I am not sure how stable the system will be in the long run.
Is there any point in doing this now...
This is exactly the case. Backup was the first thing I did when I logged on Ubuntu.
Actually I already tried ntfsfix once, but now I looked at it once more and an epiphany came upon me: I had...
My setup: Lenovo IBM T60 running Windows XP from its internal 70 GB hard drive + Ubuntu 9.04 Wubi install on an external 1,5TB drive.
The problem: The setup always worked fine. At one point,...
The cameras are USB with no internal storage and the GPS is USB as well, none of these have dedicated power supply. As to temperature and pressure probes, we have not bought anything yet. :/ I just...
Hello, everyone!
I was wondering where to post this and somehow these forums seemed the right place, even though the question is not entirely Ubuntu-related.
We are doing project here, which...
Ok, I managed to figure it out myself. The EeePC video card apparently cannot handle large video surfaces. As I changed the virtual resolution in xorg.conf back to the laptops native 1024x600 all the...
My EeePC 901 is running an almost fresh Ubuntu NBR 9.04. It all worked incredibly well until I decided to plug in my 19" external LCD. I could not get the right resolution and had to use xrandr to...
ok, I'll try what you suggested and report back.
My Acer laptop has a NVIDIA geforce8600m GS 512 graphics card. I just installed 9.04 on it today and everything works pretty well, except for the video card. When I try going...
cmon, this cannot be that difficult. Let's hope the right person sees it now :D
no luck. I couldn't reinstall poppler-utils as it would require uninstalling a whole lot of other packages... The Mark for reinstallation option in Synaptic was greyed out. There was no libpoppler4...
ok, I'm experiencing a weird problem here. When I open any PDF in Evince it just says Loading... and nothing really happens. Sometimes it manages to open the file after a while, but it is not usable...
