    custom IP tables configuration and Aegis 2.0 (clamav backend - dont want my box becoming a carrier, the albeit slim potential of forwarding a virus to some windows user is NOT good)

    Its not the whole enviroment... just explorer.

    Window management in windows is tied to the kernel, you cant replace it, though its behavior can be modified slightly

    be it with compiz/xgl or metacity, I use multiple workspaces (eight atm).. but not the switcher. I just Ctrl+Alt+ <Left or Right> to switch workspaces... or the mousewheel in compiz :)

    They normally minimize as mini windows (the little tiles/blocks)... but you can turn thet off in the preferences panel... and just use the middle click menu.
