    I would recommend doing a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 from the live CD. You can back up your data while running the CD.

    I would recommend downloading an Ubuntu 11.04 iso image and doing a clean install of 11.04. You could also wait for Ubuntu 12.04, which is an LTS release.

    Installing Lubuntu on top of Xubuntu is a bad idea, because the two can conflict with each other.
