Sorry to bump, but my son just got the Coby MP826 for his birthday. I've got the same problem. I don't have Windows, so Virtualbox is not an option.

Got my solution to getting sound to work on the PinguyOS forum.
I ran sudo apt-get update
Then sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. Rebooted and ran alsamixer and unmuted the front speakers...Sound! Woot......

Anyone able to help me? I've had no sound for a few weeks now and need some assistance...

Sorry to bump an old thread here, but it is very applicable to my problem.
I ran 'sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/sound' and then 'sudo aptitude reinstall linux-headers-2.6.35-23-generic...

I plugged in the ethernet cable while still in OSX, and after a bit of rebooting the cable modem, the ethernet connection came up! So, I rebooted and it ran great! Did all the updates and rebooted...

I wish it was that simple. When I plug in the ethernet cable, it times out trying to connect. I see the auto eth0, but can't get any wired connection.

My problem is that I can't update via system->administration->additional drivers as when it loads the drivers I am missing and I select Activate, it tries to connect to the internet, which of course...

I have been playing a bit with Mint 9 & 10 installs to see if that would get me an ethernet connection. No luck. No one seems to have any answers and the various methods I've tried are getting me...

Well, I followed the instructions pretty well I think(didn't get any errors), but obviously screwed up as I still have no connections. I even followed the READme.txt twice...rebooted etc...
