Hi,
Just to close the loop, I gave up on MS Virtual PC and went with Virtualbox. I now have network connectivity.
Hi and thanks for the feedback.
The setting I have is "Shared Networking (NAT)". I believe that's the correct one but I've tried the others as well. Nothing seems to work.
There is no option...

Sorry about the confusion. But the bottom line is I got what I wanted.
I found nbtscan.
Works great!
Is there a way to get the IP and hostname of all clients on the LAN?
I've tried this command:

Which DOES locate the hosts but does NOT seem to report hostnames.

In a sense. I ended up reinstalling from scratch. It was fine after that.

Hi, I don't know perl at all and am not very good with regular expressions.
I'm trying to eliminate some non-utf8 characters in file names and don't know the original charset. Here's an example...
Thanks! That's just what I'll do.
But I think this will continue to occur as Windows users add more files to the shares.
I'd really like to know what caused this to just become a problem when...
I have some samba shares used by Windows users. Some of the file names in those shares have foreign characters like an "a" with 2 dots above.
Linux displays those files with "(invalid encoding)"...

I followed Falco's great instructions (The Perfect Server - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Apache2, BIND, Dovecot, ISPConfig 3)) pretty much to the letter but when I get to the last page which says to go here: ...
Update: After successfully updating with synaptic I tried to use update manager to check again for new updates.
I didn't expect any but thought I'd give it a try.
That was over an hour ago and...
Me again.
Well I waited over 7 hours and the progress bar never moved.
I killed the process and used synaptic instead of update manager and the whole thing took maybe 10 minutes to complete.

I got tired of waiting so I paged down and finally got to "(END)" of that detail block.
But I don't think anything is happening at this point.
The progress bar is at about 50% and seems to be...
I'm in the process of "Applying changes" in the Update Manager and it seems stalled.
