I like the referrals idea. I spread Ubuntu around to a lot of people, so I've always thought some kind of simple "rewards program" might be kinda cool. Even if it's just for free stuff.
What kind of hardware are you using?
Laptop with a touchpad?
Have you had it working better before, or did you just do a new install?
[Dell Latitude D610: Pentium M 1.6Ghz, 2GB of fasterthanstock RAM, 64mb Radeon x300, 60gb HD]
Everything works great for me, and I've used everything that this laptop can do.
Do you happen to know what kind of cable came with your laptop?
Did it come with any stickers on the cable, or in a bag or anything?
Sometimes they'll send S-Video cables with laptops. They could...
HDMI cables are always overpriced....
Tiger Direct is usually good.
If you're in Canada, go with
This should do the trick, unless...
S-Video is video only, so you'll need to connect your sound output from your laptop to your TV, or your sound system. Depends how you have your home system set up.
An HDMI cable has both audio and...
I'm currently from London, Ontario. Living here for university.
Used to be from Stratford, lots of people seem to know about that place. Lol.
Hey, thanks a lot CH!
I just kind of dismissed the idea of getting it working for a while, so it's great to finally have a solution.... Lol.
I'll try it out this evening or tomorrow when I have...
I'm using the proprietary drivers.
I think I tried using fglrx a while ago....it's been so long since I tried fixing all this.
I am running the ATI X300 card.
....as far as I know.
"WOAH! What did your computer just do?!"
Me: "It's a cube."
"Can my computer do that?"
I'd never mention the two in the same sentence, unless Ubuntu > Vista.
And besides that, I've never heard this before. I've heard it called "softy" or "baby" linux, but...
Haha.... I agree.
We could start calling it "Super HardxCore Mega Ultimate OS", or something a little more...impressive. ;)
But I do suppose the name Ubuntu is representative of the whole...
Well it's kind of a weird coincidence that I stumbled on this this week...
The past few days/week I've been looking into the LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control) project.
My computer doesn't come...
Haha....yes, I realize that now.
And I agree, PCLinuxOS is a nice "transitional" linux.
**Looks around in awe at all the amazing linux-women in this thread**
Haha... I just had to say it for all the geeks out there.
In all honesty, I'm thoroughly impressed. I never...
Thanks for that post!!
This whole "speeding up boot" idea is kinda interesting
Lately, it all seems to revolve around SSD's. Hard drive access times just can't compare, unfortunately....
Amen to that.
I've been using Ubuntu for a while now, all my linux friends know about it, and they're generally fine with it. Lol.
Who cares if I'm using an "easy" linux? Isn't that half the point?...
3 partial converts (dual booters), and 1 full convert.
Hopefully some more on the way.
I do have a few friends though who are completely against the idea of Ubuntu, or any linux build. They...
I'm totally going to try to make this work this weekend.
I've heard a little bit about it from some friends, but didn't believe that it had actually been done, and that it...
Yay, an ex-Mac!!
I've converted 2 Mac users to Ubuntu so far...and they've stuck with it, and it works great for them too!
Spread the word!
I seem to have it all figured out now, mostly.
Here is the discussion of my fix:
Thanks for your help!
Oh the wonderful solutions that we can come up with when we work together....haha!
Thanks stevebond001. I seem to have it all working now.
I did the same thing as you, to see if that worked.
I have a similar problem to what you were having.
Whenever I turn on my external harddrives and they are mounted, autorun pops up to tell me that there is software intended to run automatically....
