Basically desktop version comes with pre-installed packages which can be useful as a desktop user and it is recommended to install server os as a clean install rather than installing required server...
Seiji is right it seems to be a problem with your web-app. Sometimes programmer tends to hardcode or may be parameterize some url for css/js include which can cause this error.
I am not sure about your application requirements but installing ubuntu-linux or any other os on virtualization technology is better idea now a days.
I am running 2 dozen nodes on vmware esxi 5.0...
I think other people on the post tried explaining it well but here is another post which might help you on the same topic with much detail:

a simple question: can you ping your mom's machine's public ip? looks like it might be DHCP.
How about if someone wants to install 12.04 beta and update it from beta to final release. Will it be as risky as upgrading from 11.10?

Try following function:

$ sudo find | grep php-cli
or something similar, I hope that should help.
Please mention proper details about what proxy you're trying to use? People here at forum will only be able to help you if you provide enough details.

Try gedit or if you're looking for complete IDE you should definitely give Netbeans a try.
http://netbeans.org
r-senior, more important is how do you connect your development machine to the public internet?
Also you may want to give try to bitnami-lampstack. But if you're going to use ubuntu-server on...
Thanks David, I understood but I think I was lazy to start off new topic this time or just didn't wanted to bother everyone with my questions...
I was feeling like I am having too many questions...
Alright - Thanks everyone. I think I am understanding things now.
Now question I am having is:
There are 2 choices an individual have as an ubuntu server admin:
1) open-vm-tools

Can somebody please reply to this question? Admins if required please move it to some different category if I have made mistake by putting it inside Virtualization category.
Thanks.
I know that this could be generic question instead of falling into Virtualization category but I thought of adding it here as there was VMware involved and I thought might get some important comments...
Hello All,
I am using Ubuntu on VMware vSphere Hypervisor™ (ESXi) 5.0, now when I update Ubuntu core (Kernel) do I need to re-install these VMware tools? Are they built for specific or get...
Thank you Raja. Now it looks so stupid that I should have guessed that before asking the question..!
Never mind Thanks.
Kudos.
Hello All,
I am new to linux world and building HA platform using vmware hypervisor ESXi with more than dozen of nodes. I am almost done with all my setup, only thing which is remaining is...
I think this might not be as simple as apt-get update/upgrade because 5.4 is new and have not been added to official repos yet.
So I would suggest you to go with separate setup by downloading...
Forgot to write about $this->variable;
When you see some variable inside a class being referred as $this->variableName, it means that "variableName" is member variable (or property) of that class...
