Did I say it does? What are you talking about? Matters or no, it is kind of curious that he abandoned this forum and created his own again.

distrowatch "stats" really is garbage, it has nothing to do with defending Canonical. Why would you visit distrowatch unless you are distrohopping or shopping for something different? It tarcks...
Being a staff member and being active are two different things. Since the guy found the forum I think it is natural that he would be on the councli whether he is active on not. I never remember...
I think he started another Ubuntu forum.

I know, I just can't see why "reliable" in that sense would be desirable for non "enterprise" users,--that would be most of us.
Don't think LTS has anything to do with "reliable" performance. 10.10 is way better than 10.04 and 11.04 is better 10.10 (even though you have to wait about 3-4 months after Natty's release for that...
Yep, I am always 3-6 months behind. Natty is now in a very sweet spot. It is insane to update with Ubuntu's release schedule. The pattern is , just when one version becomes really polished and stable...
11.04 has turned out to be a very solid OS 3-4 months into release I am pretty sure that 11.10 will be great in a month or two. These OSes were released prematurely? Maybe, but there is no Vista in...
Or someone using really ancient hardware..:D
If you are using Ubuntu 11.10 you have to install with the snapshots ppa instead of the "releases" one,
so change the commands to
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-snapshots
sudo...

Nothing to install, just plug in and I am online (it has a mini cd with the Windows drivers, but in Linux it works ootb) Works on 10.04, 10.10 and...
I wonder what does MS consider "malware" (maybe torrent files?) If you run virus scans with AVs usually there is a prompt asking the user what to do with suspicious files before actions are taken...
It is possible for compatiblity reasons, but not your data.
Yeah, that it is MS is a very good reason to be concerned.
So what kind of "discrimination" do you think would make MS deleting...
Don't know how you move applications from one desktop to another, I use the cube to switch desktop and moving windows around with the cube is not working in 11.10....
Well every installer for every new Ubuntu release I have tried.
I have reinstalled 11.10 a 5th time last week with a new iso. Guess what? It crashed on me again (unchecking downloading updates...
Fix the *snip* installer so it doesn't crash on you.
To get Amarok to play mp3 you have to install the package libxine1-ffmpeg. For other players installing the restricted-extras seems sufficient but Amarok is peculiar that way.
The fluendo thing...
Oh to answer your question, the dash shows the installed programs (if they have a .desktop file) and if your compile has failed your program wouldn't show up. Also programs that don't have a...
Ok, in Ubuntu (and many other distros as well) installation and update of programs are managed centrally in software repositories so that you don't have to go on random sites to download installers...
Octave is in the repository. You can choose which tool boxes to install from synaptic or the software center too.
You can try importing your account since you have a test install.
I have moved these two files, purged qbittorrent, used bleachbit to do one more clean up, rebooted, reinstalled qbittorrent and...
Well there are two folders that seem to be relevant. Unless you have changed it, qbittorrent saves its downloads to the folder QBT-dir in your home, so you need to save this and replace the new...
No, that part is fine. It is the standard output whenever I activate a Nvidia driver the first time by running "sudo nvidia-xonfig". it just says that it has to create an updated xorg.conf to replace...
dapper drake? Are you serious?? It is long dead. Try to install a supported version (10.04, 10.10. 11.04 or 11.10) :) I don't even know that you can still get the iso.
If you have kept a separate /home partition then yes. Otherwise if you save its configuration file (either .qbittorrent or something in .config) and the data file (of course) and copy them to the...
