Gtk is mostly what you see. Buttons, text entry, drop lists, scrollbars etc.... The gtkrc is just a text file that tells an gtk2 engine what to do.
Quick and easy way
If you have a .gtkrc-2.0 in...
For gtk, put the following at the top of the theme's gtkrc, save, apply a different theme and reapply the modified theme.

SkiesOfAzel on gnome-look helped me out. What is needed for gimp is
widget "*GimpRuler" style "ruler"
I am trying to update a few pixmap engine themes and can't get the ruler to display/work without corruption in gimp. Works in Inkscape. The two themes have have tried are Scutum...
Ambiance and Radiance use the same engine. So that could be an issue. They both also have special settings for the panel, so what I would do is go into the gtkrc and disable the special panel...
You may know this and not care but if you press the Alt key and right click you get the titlebar menu. Alt and left click grabs the window to move.

attached is a metacity theme with no borders, buttons ...nothing....zero. Does that help?

I'm trying to update my Onux themes. I see that people are able to not have the old ugly bright fg[INSENSITIVE] but can't figure out how they are doing it. If anyone knows, help would be appreciated.
necessary? What makes you think it will ever be necessary?
What window manager and what theme? In metacity you have to edit the themes metacity-theme-1.xml file. Look for something like
<distance name="left_width" value="4"/>
Copying the buttons from Ambiance blue on gnome-look.org worked. So you probably just need to edit the above mentioned files.
Should be able to change the name to Blue Ambiance in the index.theme and metacity-theme-1.xml files. However when I tried it, the modified close.png is replaced with the original close.png :shock: ....
No. There's many to choose from. Not all available by default but all should be available via apt-get. It's just a matter of finding a repository.
I don't know if all these are still developed....
no, that's not mine
style "combobox" = "default"
text[NORMAL] = "#54A6BB"
class "GTKCombo" style "combobox"
widget_class "*Combo.*" style "combobox"
class "GTKComboBox" style "combobox"...
it's possible something can be done, but judging from the screenshot I'd guess...not in this case. Because the adjustments would be paddings and such in the gtkrc and the icon seems to fill the...
I would have to check but the button should be higher than the combo in hierarchy, so the combo should by default inherit button properties unless a separate combo style is specified. Maybe that...
correct. gtk2 can not do transparency yet. Pretty amazing for a menu really. You'd think it could be like any other image that is stretched. Engines can't do it either. It's a gtk2 issue atm.
Yes, that's why. You don't have separate button and combo styles.
