[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Not sure of your history with the UX31, but earlier experimentations in this thread turned off the tap-to-click functionality by adding lines to /etc/rc.local by echoing 0x90 to the touch device.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

This thread is dedicated to solving Ubuntu issues with a particular machine (Asus UX31/UX21).. perhaps a more generic forum would be a better place to ask this question?

    ("shud" and "u"? ..really?...

[ubuntu] Re: Booting from SD slot?

Holding ESC down whilst starting the machine up will give you a list of bootable devices, including USB ones. If the card slot doesn't show up in that list, then it won't boot from it.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I understand the default is rc6=1 too.. I left it as it was because I didn't think it would hurt.

Will remove them and see what the difference is.

    UPDATE: For me, with kernel...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I run 3.3r6 on ubuntu 11.10 with the rc6 kernel boot parameters. Absolutely no issues thus far.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Because one poster has claimed the misspelling make the thread easier to find.

In fact* we are all so used to it, we are petitioning Mark Shuttleworth to get Ubuntu renamed to Ubunutu.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I don't think this is actually basic.. earlier in this thread we used a script in /etc/pm/sleep.d/ to do things when sleeping and resuming.. I think that sort of thing is the right place do to this....

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

This would appear to be a bug with compiz or the video driver.

It might be advisable to not wrap this one within the term "freeze", as that is currently being used to talk about lockups (ie: the...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I have freezes (kernel panics) inside the ath9k driver on the the same network.. they appear in clusters.. maybe 2 or three times in an hour.. then none for 4 days.

It appears to be a memory...

I have this issue quite often.. exactly the same... I think ath9k crashes are the only remaining stability issues.

Never.. though some in this thread have. I can't recall why this issue went away for those folks though.

What are you running? We'd probably would need to know the kernel version, if you've got...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Good question - this thread is huge so it can be hard to figure out the current status. However, reading through a few recent posts it does looks like fixes for the biggest issues are close to being...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    This is totally as expected.

rc6=3 is exactly the same as rc6=1 used to be.

Therefore this is exactly the same as reverting to any pre-patched kernel and re-confirming the shutdown problem...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

This is consistent with expectations - only r6=1 was applicable to our shutdown issue according to the documentation.

Thank you for performing an exhaustive test though!

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I would like to once more suggest that if you are kindly testing the new r6 patch you should not add any fixed DSDTs to the equation or your results will be inconclusive.

    Also, note once more that...

I thought rc6=3 is discouraged - only there for experimentation. Perhaps getting it going with rc6=1 is a more reasonable goal?

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I am a little confused why we are rolling kernels with both fixed DSDT patches and the new intel rc6 work.

People have experienced the sudden-power-off-shutdowns with fixed DSDT kernels (I have),...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Yep.. I think this is worth reinforcing.

You will not get a "sudden power-off shutdown" if you do not specify any rc6 options.

You may get a kernel panic from some new kernels, but this is...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Also a gentle reminder (and an attempt to verify the current situation).

Your BIOS setting for vtD will be reset after you update the BIOS. For some (all?) kernels this needs to be turned off.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    These are all good points.

From my own experience, it is pretty simple to tell the difference between the two issues.

The atk9k problem products a kernel panic and the machine reverts to...
