I just completed an install of 16.04 on a new system without any problems, but when the system (not the live USB) started, I get the (GUI) login screen, I can enter my password, then... nothing....
Your tip did it! I had to "select an UEFI file as trusted", then choose HDD0(my main HD)/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi - then it booted up fine! I'll mark this as solved.
But, just for completeness, let...
I tried installing 15.04 to a brand new Acer Aspire E15 laptop (that came with Windows 8 or 8.1) from a live USB. The installation went off without any warnings, but it won't boot to the HDD (live...

i was having the same problem, but the modified command line didn't work for me.
Eventually i just said to hell with it, and i include in the form <tr1/utility>. It's non-standard, and it doesn't...
i don't imagine this is a wine-specific problem. The application has a platinum compatibility rating, and this kind of crash isn't unique to wine apps. Firefox used to do it (the one right out of the...
i have had a problem with crashing programs that don't... "die" completely, but rather seem to be running perfectly well, just without any GUI any more. They're still logging and doing their thing......
