Did you make sure that the correct repositories for Karmic are installed? If you upgraded, the old repositories might still be installed which could be a problem.
Have you installed the multimedia codecs?

Yeah, it worked for me. At least it worked until I updated Fedora 12 a few minutes ago, rebooted and now I find that it tells me that it can no longer find a root device and so won't boot. :)
