  1. [ubuntu] Re: Does 16.04 LTS display properly on UHD/4K screens?

Got it. Was able to test on my desktop's 4K monitor. The only thing is, the login screen is not scaled properly.
  2. [ubuntu] Does 16.04 LTS display properly on UHD/4K screens?

I'm looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad P51s, with a UHD (4K) display, and wondering if Ubuntu 16.04 would display properly? That is, all items on the screen would NOT be super tiny (half size), but same...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: After 14.04.1 update; Intel wireless STILL totally hosed

Which link are you referring to? If it's the forum thread right above, which page did you find the solution on?
  4. Why I'm ditching Ubuntu Desktop and why the mainstream will never take it seriously

This is a little bit ranty, though my hope is that people (especially people working on Ubuntu) will give it some consideration.

I'm sitting here on a fresh install of 14.04 LTS, on a Lenovo...

  6. [ubuntu] Re: After 14.04.1 update; Intel wireless STILL totally hosed

    I have a USB wifi adapter (Atheros chipset, a TP-Link TL-WN722N). Atheros AR9271.

When I do a speed test with the built-in Intel:

  7. [ubuntu] After 14.04.1 update; Intel wireless STILL totally hosed

I'm about to sell this ThinkPad and get a Dell XPS Developer Edition. Ubuntu just does not play nice with the ThinkPad S431's wifi. Look at this terrible speed (typical):

  8. [ubuntu] Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 woes - horrible performance

Are you still having issues on Ubuntu 14.04?
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Any hope of resolving SERIOUS network driver issues before 14.04 LTS?

Which version of Ubuntu are you using?
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Any hope of resolving SERIOUS network driver issues before 14.04 LTS?

Hey, uh, Bucky Ball! :) I appreciate the response. I wish I had any hope of fixing my problem. Already posted before, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to get a different pair of eyes on it.

  11. [ubuntu] Any hope of resolving SERIOUS network driver issues before 14.04 LTS?

Realtek is still a huge issue on Ubuntu, I believe due to outdated drivers that no one has bothered updating. I bought a Lenovo laptop that has an Intel wireless driver, thinking I'd be safe, but...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 woes - horrible performance

Well, it seems more stable now I think. Speeds are terrible though. My Ubuntu laptop gets about 5Mbps down/up via speedtest while my iPhone clocks in at 18Mbps down/12Mbps up.
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 woes - horrible performance

Oh, forgot that part about putting "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1". Let me try that.
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 Intel wireless woes - horrible performance

Ahh damn, I got duped!! Here I was thinking I was going to get Intel chipset for wifi, but it looks like it's just Realtek. Argh! If this is the case, then this could be the issue that working...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 Intel wireless woes - horrible performance

    Laptop: Lenovo S431, running Ubuntu 13.10, kernel 3.11.0-14-generic x86_64

    Wireless Brand/model: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

  16. [ubuntu] Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 woes - horrible performance

I'm about to give up on Linux. Wifi has ALWAYS been such a weak point in the kernel, and I intentionally got a laptop (Lenovo) with an Intel wifi chipset to avoid Realtek which is almost always a...
  17. [ubuntu] Looking for a USB wifi adapter that is NOT Realtek

In my experience with Ubuntu, Realtek tends to not play nice. I had one laptop where the wifi kept dropping consistently. Are there any good USB wifi adapters that are Atheros or Intel? The adapters...

  20. [ubuntu] Re: Lenovo laptop won't stay shut off, boots up after shutdown

Oh well what do you know, this is fixed in kernel 3.8.0-30! :)

    EDIT :Nope, never mind.
  21. [ubuntu] Re: Lenovo laptop won't stay shut off, boots up after shutdown

That doesn't work either. Actually I think I've figured out this might be a UEFI issue. I'm going to submit a bug on this.
  22. [ubuntu] Wireless (USB) mouse drops out periodically

I've got a Microsoft wireless mouse (USB, not Bluetooth), and occasionally the mouse stops working. If I hit the alt key a few times, it comes back. I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue?
  23. [ubuntu] Re: Lenovo laptop won't stay shut off, boots up after shutdown

I have, yes. Didn't work either.
  24. [ubuntu] Lenovo laptop won't stay shut off, boots up after shutdown

I have a ThinkPad S431 running Ubuntu 13.04, and it won't shut off by conventional means. When I choose shutdown, the machine turns off but then promptly turns back on again right away. In order to...
  25. [ubuntu] Re: Synaptics touchpad acting just a little wonky

    I think I have a solution:

xinput set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Noise Cancellation" 26 26

And of course the 26 26 can be increased to eliminate more noise.
