Now the installation is complete and my dual boot works without a hiccup, should I put secure boot back on?

    Re: brightness function

    I have.
But I do not have the solution.
I did the same on my G750JZ and tried everything in terms of editing grub with the backlight vendor commands or making a xorg config file, to no avail.
  6. [SOLVED] Freezes during boot (13.10 on Asus M70Vn)

I have an ageing Asus M70Vn which I was reluctant to part with despite its age.

I decided to remove one of its two hard disks to replace it with an SSD in order to gain a bit of speed.
    My choice:...

    got it!

It a face hiding behind a wall, of which you see only the nose and the left eye. You are just seeing a glimpse of it, hence "chira' " = "[see you/see me] just a little, briefly."

    Re: japanese emoticon

    I am a bit confused.

The Chinese character above 壁 means "wall" and is read "kabe". I do not think that it has anything to do with an emoticon.

The last three characters チラッ are katanata...

    Many thanks Guido.
    That indeed did the trick!
  12. [ubuntu] Unpredictable and random placement of screenlets

I am using 11.10 on several computers (an Asus Laptop and an HP desktop)

I am faced with a small but annoying problem: screenlets will never appear where I placed them ("locked" + "sticky"). They...

    I'm afraid that did nothing.

    Same problem here!

Startup sound is enabled in Startup Applications but no startup sound.

[ubuntu] Re: No Shutdown With 11.10

Actually, even though I did a fresh install, I still once in a while get this freeze during shutdown. After these messages:

    The system hangs.
  20. [ubuntu] Re: 11.10 worked fine, then today's update killed my sound

ARooster is right. "Ubuntu Software Center" has indeed a "History" menu button which, if pressed, lists "All Changes", "Installations", "Updates" and "Removals" on a date by date basis.

    [ubuntu] Re: network icon disappered?

I don't know why F11 would remove sound.

On your keyboard, you may have a combination of two function keys such as "Fn + F11", to lower the sound? That could be it?

In any case, I don't think...

    [ubuntu] Re: network icon disappered?

I don't know why your network icon disappeared but this might help.

    Install Gnome Tweak Tools.

Once installed, run it and select "Desktop" -> "Network Servers icon visible on desktop."
