How about mythtv?
Check your hostname/ IP address in the following files:-
~/user/.mythtv/config.xml
~/user/,mythtv/mysql.txt
~/.mythtv/config.xml
~/.mythtv/mysql.txt
/etc/mythtv/config.xml
...
There is a bug in relation to this.

The simplest way is to make sure the TV is set to PC mode. My LG plasma required me to rename an input to PC, I use HDMI to connect.
If you have an Nvidia card there is a slider in NVIDIA X Server...
Have you checked your device in alsamixer....... make sure it is not muted, ubuntu uses pulse audio but myth uses alsa. I'm no expert but I hope this helps!
