Re: Quake 1 anyone? (quick easy install script)

It should be called the ezQuake install script rather, since ezQuake is highly unrepresentative of Quake as it's a Quakeworld engine with many default features designed for competitive players only...
  3. Re: Forget the Xbox, PlayStation and Wii say hello to Ouya

You can thank JoWooD (nowadays Nordic Games) for turning the tycoon genre into a shovelware frenzy in 2002.

FPSes sell big because of a sense of stimulated masculinity. It "feels good" to use...

Re: Best Car/Vehicle gaming - DosBox?

I always enjoyed Carmageddon. Violent subject matter and black humor but the physics and damage model were pretty unmatched for the time :)

Through DOSbox, you'll need a very beefy machine to...

    Re: [GUIDE] Quake on Ubuntu

Both of you miss the point.

It's about running the original Quake on Ubuntu.

That said, there are various native engines you can try:

    Darkplaces
    Quakespasm
    Quakeforge

Re: Open Arena Extremely Low FPS with 12.04

Make your way to the Driver Info page. It's found in Setup > System

Does it say "Mesa" or "Software" under the VENDOR label?

Obviously there's no acceleration with your video driver. OA...

    Re: Best FPS?

as a leader of a shooter game project i'm not going to self-promote, and you want "war".....

so i'll say Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, which has a linux client. It's not the best and it hasn't...

Re: best games for windows: Open Outcast

Because they shifted into a Crysis mod years ago. The engine is stuck on Win32 depending on DirectX 9/10. The engine is beyond their control.

Also it's not a free game - it depends on a copy of...
  12. Re: Worst video chipset supported by current Ubuntu

John Carmack did help set things straight for the future with the GLQuake craze of '97 no doubt about that... every vendor wanted to have their hardware run on that 'hot' game and it overall lead to...
  13. Worst video chipset supported by current Ubuntu

    What is it?

Windows 95 has the lowest of them all for supporting first-generation consumer grade 3D acceleration early on with ViRGE, PCX1, Rage and V1000, but what I want to know how low the...

Quake3 is still very available, including trilogy bundled forms with the other two quakes.
  20. Re: New Twist on an Old Problem: Wine sound delay

I get worse in Call of Duty on wine too. It's just unplayably slow (less than 1fps) in complex sound areas. I dunno why this game is marked gold on winehq if this is quite a severe problem

Re: Quake 3 BSP Level Editor?

    GTKRadiant

Note that BSP is the compiled form. You'll want to make .MAPs instead and use the q3map2 compiler to compile it to BSP format.
