  6. [SOLVED] Re: Boot from USB, but microSD as persistent storage?

It might be simpler to use a boot manager, (similar to Plop).

  8. Re: Installing Ubuntu to boot with USB for use on an old NetBook, anything I should k

I don't think pendrivelinux has a tool for doing Full installs.
Searching Sudodus in these forums will yield some nice Linux/Windows tools for writing 'buntu images to flash drives.
    It is also easy...
  9. [SOLVED] Re: I messed up my USB thumb install somehow

    +1

casper -rw is similar to a / partition on a full install,
home-rw is similar to having a /home partition on a full install.
Either can exist as files or partitions on a persistent install....

  17. [ubuntu] Re: How to boot from gparted live if Ubuntu is also installed on an external drive

You can also boot the Ubuntu Live DVD or Live USB and open gparted from there.
I find the Gparted Live CD works better but the Ubuntu Live gparted should do what you want.
  18. [ubuntu] Re: How to boot from gparted live if Ubuntu is also installed on an external drive

I think Gparted Live sees all of the drives on a system, if you click upper right you get a dropdown with all drives you can select.
I have used it to adjust partitions on Ubuntu thumb drives

  25. [all variants] Re: Security Risks - re use of Live Buntu with persistence (no password)

With a persistent install you can go to User Accounts and add yourself as a user.
You will then get a password prompt when booting up.
(You might have some problem shutting down though)....
