    I really do not know what was changed/added/deleted/broken in 13.10 and 14.04 and the hotkeys are completely DEAD.

    Have you tried manually adding the line "rmmod e1000e" inside /etc/modules?


    sudo gedit /etc/modules

    and in the end of the file add the line


    Save, exit and reboot to test.
