    Go via the Package Manager and completely remove VLC.
    Look at the attached screenshot. You will only need to do VLC.
    Once that is done, reinstall VLC.
    That should give you a fresh install to start...

    Go ahead and press "Y". Once the install is done. try a dvd video.
    If you have changed any default settings in VLC, put them back to default.

    It has to do with the video format. Linux does not have a licensed codec (WMV9) for it.
    What the EU should be using is a open source codec.
