I just checked under regular Ubuntu 64-bit by typing the wrong password on purpose, which obviously resulted in "Authentication failure" message but after re-typing my password correctly afterwards...
Scared to use it now that I'm so happy my games work again under 1.5.19. ;-) But, now I know how to downgrade succesfully I'll check it out soon.
For now: Happy New Year every body!
This worked for me, perhaps you should check too? http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12429342&postcount=6
Thanks all for the help!!!
Succes with a mix of what your retrievings found in "var/cache/apt/archives" and the commandline pioughd mentioned.
Only I found 4 files instead of 3 relating to the previous version of Wine:

The win32 libraries seem flawed.
A lot of people also mention the error report referring to something related to sound.
Since recently there hasn't been an update to the sound drivers for Ubuntu...
It definitely is a problem caused by the latest 1.5.20 update.
Check my findings: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12428159#post12428159
Does anybody know how to revert to version 1.5.19...
It seems you are not the only one with the latest update of wine crashing. I've found them all across the boards. The version 1.5.20 definitely is flawed. Check my post here below.
I get these...
It's not only Eve online. Somethings very wrong with the latest 1.5.20 wine update. Check: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12428159#post12428159
Hmmz. Ok, I'm starting to see a pattern here I don't particularly like with the latest Wine update.
After I updated Wine to version 1.5.20 today and afterwards my perfectly working Far Cry 2...
PlayonLinux should make installing games easier.
But did you you try vanilla Wine sollutions for Kotor through the app-db? http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1980

Does it still happen if you select "emulate virtual desktop" for that game in the "Graphics"-tab in the Wine-config?
Some specific games/ apps in Wine mess up my desktop resolution too after I close...
Hmm, yes, now that you mention it. My bad.
But could the mentioned performance benefit through vmware over virtualbox also count for Ubuntu as a host?
Googling for "ubuntu host vmware player...
Wine offers the best performance.
But if you want to go the path of virtualisation, then VMWare player (which is also free) offers much superior performance compared to VirtualBox.
Check the...
It seems that Phoronix is quite positive about the performance with this new driver:

[QUOTE=DaftPyramid;7502163]Well, it doesn't completely break it.
I updated wine today, and coincidentally I started a new game in Oblivion afterwards. Everything was perfectly fine. I saved and...
Hmmz. Actually that didn't really help. Totally disabling HD Audio disables sound completely. Setting it to AC'97 instead of the default HD audio does work, but also keeps the " Too many connections...
Thank for the tip. I will check it out.
I've tried both AHCI and IDE during my long unsuccesfull trial and error process described lengthly in my earlier post before I swapped the default...

Mileage may vary. But I think it would be wise to check http://appdb.winehq.org/ for each or these mentioned games and the experiances wine-users had with them.
Same issue here. PC specs are in my signature. Totally different system.
I suppose it's an unsolved bug.
BTW: Logging out and then log back in again does also help.
No need to completely...

Same trouble here I can confirm. Just aesthetical bug it seems, because it does seem to perform it's updates flawlessly.
Another weird thing, pressing "check for updates"button afterwards again,...
That's funny and quite in contradiction with Phoronix's findings: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=linux_desktop_vitals&num=1
