For me it is faster than XP, first you have to install the kernel for your processor, for example k7 for AMD athlon and i686 for Pentiums IV. That makes faster de pc, if its not enough try to compile...

For java i use netbeans, and for C++ anjusta, somethings i use eclipse for both languages.
