    That's what I've done also, with the exception of setting the res, as I can get no such option.

    I'd have responded earlier, but I didn't know what to make of the information in that last section....

    I just did a complete removal of both the nvidia-current & nvidia-settings, rebooted, reinstalled both via synaptic and then rebooted to the exact same situation, including the sudo nvida-xconfig...
