Maybe you can check the temperatures. Might be that in Ubuntu the cooling system does not work properly and it restarts automatically when too hot. One way to test it is to run 'sensors' in terminal....

huge log files means that probably there is something wrong in your system, take a look on them.
You van delete the logs manually or using bleachbit. I would recommend you to have a look at them...
wow, you could delete all old packages and kernels manually, but it will be easier if you install ubuntu-tweak and do it from there.

I guess you can put a huge file into your HDD, lets say 2.5 GB. In order to save the file, I think that the system should defragment. After deleting the file you will have a nice defragmented HDD.

hm, I am not an expert but makefile.win32 looks like a windows file. Did you downloaded the right package for Ubuntu?
