My first question would be why are you trying to install McAfee on Ubuntu?
Firstly I have never heard of such a thing. If you wanted virus detection on linux I would think Clamav would be the...
I've switched over myself to KDE recently due to being left behind by Gnome3 and Unity. I really loved Gnome2 and it will be sorely missed. KDE is now the my best choice for a full desktop...
I'm interested to see that I'm not the only one with a Compaq Presario that has this repeating key issue. The USB keyboard is the solution I use too.
I'd like to completely disable the built-in...
At first glance it seems you have overwritten the Grub bootloader installed by Ubuntu. This is a pretty common issue for people new to Linux in general. If you were to search the forum for a HOW TO...
I've encountered this one myself. It's not necessarily Transmissions fault, certainly some blame must be placed on the routers ability to handle a large number of connections. Some routers do, some...

I'm guessing it drops to another init level, or single user mode or such. :)
I havent read the manual in a while.
If it is sticky keys, its going to be a bitch to get into. :)
Well done. :)
if it runs 'live' off the usb drive without installing, then yes..you should try that. I havent ever installed or run 'live' from a usb, so my experience with that medium is nil. :)
Just a thought, but I wonder if you have some keys that are repeating that are causing the password to be entered incorrectly without your knowledge. I know I have an old laptop that has that...
The easiest way to tell is to run Ubuntu from the live cd, without installing. It will run the operating system from the CD in RAM.

sudo aptitude purge gimp
#this should purge the config files as well as...
You could do a search for compiz packages in the repository
aptitude search compiz
#this will list all packages with the keyword 'compiz'
The packages in the list this will generate with...
To manually choose all the options you could install the settings manager...
sudo aptitude install compizconfig-settings-manager
Just off the top of my head I wonder whether you could go to 'recovery mode' from Grub and at the root prompt try this command
aptitude install ubuntu-desktop
#this should install all packages...
One of the the tabs is labeled 'Other Software'. The ppa at launchpad that you installed should be ticked under that tab. Unticking it should remove that ppa from your sources list.
Alternatively...
?
Have you tried my suggestion from page 2 of this thread.?
I probably should have suggested you remove the old version of GIMP first, before you the repository changes. :)
Its a pretty old thread that one. I dont know how relevant the answer is the current version of Ubuntu.
I don't know for sure, but its certainly a possibility.
sudo aptitude remove gimp
Go to your System>Administration>Software Sources and temporarily disabling the ppa repository, by...
Is their a specific reason why you are installing the svn version of gimp, rather than the version in the 'main' repository?
Which version of Gimp are you using?
How was it installed?
This thread, which I googled up (using keywords cairo dock config file), probably points you in the right direction.
