Sorry, I thought IGP was common shorthand for Integrated Graphics Processor, usually an Intel power-efficient graphics chip. I wouldn't know Apple speak if I heard it, I'm more of a Linux nerd :)

I installed Ubuntu 22.04 on my iMac 12,2 (mid 2011 I think). It looks absolutely awesome.
But I might have found a problem. As far as I can tell, the IGP and discrete GPU are switched around so...
Thanks for putting the thread in the right place, I'll be sure to post here about questions for systems running Mint from now on.
Anyway, I found the problem. The solution was running:
sudo...
First off, I'm running Mint 18.1 (based on Ubuntu 16.04). I think it's legal asking about this here, because additional driver handling is the same I think. If I'm in the wrong forum today, I...
Hi! First of all, please move my post if it's in the wrong place. I would have written in some debugging / developer forum but I couldn't find it.
I'm going to try to do a kernel bisect in order...
I've ploughed through probably every kernel option and xorg.conf option (for radeon) there is but the only thing that seems to work is actually locking the CPU frequency. On some BIOSes you can...
Well guys, just wanted to post an update on my findings. Tried 15.04 and it froze up too. Worked fine when I tested the system for an hour but my friend who owns the laptop had a freeze after ten...
I gave radeon.modeset=0 a shot but it resulted in software rendering and the wrong resolution, at least on Mint 17.1. Made everything too slow. I'll try the old Ubuntu LTS next.
Memtest and SMART clean, yes. Ran Memtest for three hours. Tried changing OS to Linux Mint 17.1 but it locked up again.
Thanks, VMC, I'll try that. Otherwise I'll throw in the previous LTS (Mint...
Found this..similar problem, earlier kernel, other GPU.. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/frozen-xfce-session-4175459545/
Well, I forgot to mention that these are laptops, so no changing the graphics.. Thanks for the suggestion though, exactly what I'd do otherwise.
Filed a bug report here:...
It would certainly be interesting to try - perhaps the problem isn't with the ATI-driver after all..but I don't think the proprietary driver is offered for as old hardware as this.
Oops, sorry for posting to the wrong forum! It's been a while since I hung out here :) Hopefully an admin can send me to the right place.
Thanks for your tips. I have checked with Memtest and...
Here are the logs, just in case.
I'm having problems with the system locking up completely. Fan spins, no switching to console, no alt+sysrq combinations work, no hints of trouble looking at the logs afterwards. I messed around with...
Checking with apt-cache, the version of the available (and working) fglrx package is 2:13.350.1-0ubuntu2. As I understand it, it is the current version in Trusty repositories, not an old one.
...
Why doesn't the Additional drivers tool offer to install fglrx? It works if I do it with apt-get..
Xorg identifies my graphics as:
[ 43.840] (--) RADEON(0): Chipset: "ATI Mobility Radeon HD...
Thanks for replying, both of you! I hope I have my problem pinned down now..a couple of more days of running would make me more certain - but it seems one of the two new memory modules is faulty. Odd...
This is driving me crazy! I eventually had a freeze using Intel-graphics so I switched back to Radeon. Where I also had program crashes (usually Firefox) and freezes.
I tried using an older kernel...
Just wanted to comment (in case anyone else has trouble like mine) that the problem might be Radeon-related after all! My laptop also has Intel graphics and I yesterday I switched to using it. Not as...
I'm having trouble after upgrading 13.10 -> 14.04. Chromium segfaults, plugins crash, system freezes up. I also upgraded my memory recently but running a thorough Memtest checks out ok. At first I...
I'm having this problem too. Found a bug, possibly the same thing: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1314871
I solved it!! For whatever reason, purging and reinstalling packages didn't reinstall them properly. Only when I did:
and on simple-scan, libusb-1.0-0, libusb-0.1-4 have I finally solved the...
I'm installing libsane, which is supposed to populate /etc/sane.d with scanner config files - but it doesn't! What am I doing wrong?
Well, I found a solution here:...
Tried 64-bit version in Virtualbox, finding the scanner worked like a charm so it's not a 32/64-bit issue.
