Re: Switching to Ubuntu Linux failed

I've changed the additional graphics card now (threw out AMD/ATI RV370 (Radeon X300) and inserted NVIDIA GT215 [GeForce GT 240]). The problem with frozen screen has vanished :)

    Hmmm... Ubuntu is a...

Re: Switching to Ubuntu Linux failed

    Thanks for all replies.

@krishnan t s : the ntfs-3g was already installed. I've added the mounts manually through /etc/fstab. So mounting NTFS is solved :)

    Switching to Ubuntu Linux failed

I've been planing to switch from Windows to Ubuntu desktop for a while now (also due to MS snooping lately). But I failed miserably (and I'm not a linux newbie at all)... Here's my experience with...
  5. Re: CIFS mount freezes after laptop comes from suspend

Yes, it's clear :), thank you. I think I'll get used to "subdirectory mounting" (/storage/storage) or even leave the whole process to network manager (on desktop) as autofs doesn't circumvent the...
  6. Re: CIFS mount freezes after laptop comes from suspend

Interesting. Then you fall under this category :) :
  7. Re: CIFS mount freezes after laptop comes from suspend

    Thanks Morbius1 for help.

Even though the solution doesn't fix the bug it might help mitigate it a bit.

p.s.: in case someone has any time, I'm very curious if I'm the only one having this...
  8. Re: CIFS mount freezes after laptop comes from suspend

Yes, you're right about the timeout.

Would it be possible to mount (in your case) directly in

    /AutoFS
    (not int /autoFS/smb-share)?
  9. Re: CIFS mount freezes after laptop comes from suspend

    Thank TheFu and Morbius1

Now it (autofs mounting) works :). It seems the problem was with missing --ghost. And It seems to be a bad idea to mount into /media as all other /media/<other-mounts>...
  10. Re: CIFS mount freezes after laptop comes from suspend

Thank you TheFu for your help. Unfortunatelly no matter how hard I tried I couldn't make autofs mount my drive.

    What I did:
    /etc/auto.master (added)

    /media/share /root/auto.smb

    then...

[ubuntu] Re: Missing Superblocks on mdadm Raid5

Yes, it's been taking fsck already a couple of hours doing the job.

Do you think this might be a sign that I assembled the array with the drives in a wrong order? Is there a way to figure out the...

[ubuntu] Re: Missing Superblocks on mdadm Raid5

I wouldn't run raid5 from 1 disk. This is only a "Save the data procedure". I don't want to test Data Recovery on original data disks (not to mess things up even further).

[ubuntu] Re: Missing Superblocks on mdadm Raid5

Wow rubylaser. Thanks. This definitely helped. After checking my old "mdadm --detail /dev/md3" it was indeed "metadata version 0.9" and "chunk size 64K".

    I assembled as you said:

    mdadm --create...

[ubuntu] Re: Missing Superblocks on mdadm Raid5

I have no idea about the metadata version. How do I check that? When I created the array I was using Ubuntu 8.04 (I guess) so quite a long time ago (year 2008).

And I'm 90% sure about the disk...

[ubuntu] Missing Superblocks on mdadm Raid5

  20. [ubuntu] Re: Wrong file ownerships after moving HDD to another computer
