I found freerdp too. The pre v1 versions are an improvement already.
I could not get the git clone of v1 to compile without issues. I'm really excited about the possibilities.

Thanks for the kick in the right direction. This fixed my poptop issue.
It's net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 and not net.ipv4.conf.default.forwarding=1 in the /etc/sysctl.conf that fixed it for me.

You cant use Vinagre for RDP yet.
To use RDP on ubuntu do this...

rdesktop -5 server-name-or-ip-here
the -5 will force protocol v5
and -4 will force protocol v4
