    Yep, i first noted all the packages i downloaded, things i had installed,
    then reinstalled ubuntu, set / on my 40 gb partiton, and restored my software.

    On the 40 gb one, with 4 partitons,


    One 1.5 gb swap space
    3 gb /tmp
    15 gb partiton for /boot
