    Try and change your appearance settings in System>Preferences>Appearance Visual Effects to -None. it might speed the crosshair up a little.

    I tried Draftsight and it looks like i can work on it, but in ubuntu, the mouse lags and it looks like it is more resource hungry than Bricscad trial.

    As TeoBigusGeekus said, try bricscad, you wont be sorry. lots of commands exactly as autocad. I work in ACad daily and am trying BricsCad out now.

    I am using the trial and might buy it to be able to have Linux as my work operating system.

    I use skype and wengophone and the voice quality of wengophone is just like skype, both real good.. the only thing is that wengophone has video support in Linux, and Skype not yet... either everyone...

    with sound quality, i have exactly the opposite experience than you... ekiga has bad sound and skype good... so it looks like it differs.
