  1. Re: What are you looking forward to in Natty Narwhal?

I'm just going on what Synaptic told me.

I haven't seen this issue at all.

    1. Dream on
    2. I hope it's ready by then. The Gnome devs have already put it back once by several months

    Ubuntu for humans?

So, Gimp was removed because it was too advanced, but MM has OO Drawing, a video editor, a remote desktop viewer, a terminal server client, and OO Spreadsheet. Then there are preferences and...

    Re: GNOME Shell Testing

What files and folders do I need to turn this into a .deb? Do I just need the stuff in the ~/gnome-shell/install folder? And should the 'include' and 'share' folders go into /usr?

[all variants] Re: HOWTO create SRT subtitles from VOB files

It may be possible as gocr allows a string to be entered for each character, rather than just one character. This means you could theoretically enter "<i>P</i>" for an italic P. But it seems to...

[all variants] Re: HOWTO create SRT subtitles from VOB files

Ok, so you can't enter italic or bold characters because gocr doesn't support it.

    Re: XPLAB ocr pattern recogniton

Had success under Debian Lenny. Need version 0.4.4 minimum as I'm compiling under 64 bit.

Now I've had a play with it, it's very long winded.

    XPLAB ocr pattern recogniton

I came across this: XPLAB. I've not been successful at compiling it, but it looks very good judging by the screenshots. It looks way more advanced than any other ocr app I've seen and used, and Linux...

[ubuntu] Re: Which laptop should i buy?

If you need warranty work done, most manufacturers simply require that you restore the OS that came with the computer, so it's the same as they sent it to you. Otherwise, it will not affect your...
  14. [ubuntu] TINY N12 laptop: None of the hardware works

My friend has an 8 year old TINY laptop, which I think is an N12 model judging by the labels on the underside. It has a 64 bit CPU, so I tried to install Ubuntu 64 bit. The Live CD works a treat, but...

Re: Are we finally getting "real" round corners?

I think that may be theme dependant. I'm using the Azenis theme, which has rounded corners even when maximized.

    Re: GNOME Shell Testing

Thanks for any help plun, but I decided to compile it instead. I even created a .deb package too (a newly learnt skill).

    I wish it didn't flicker so. :(

    Re: GNOME Shell Testing

Lucid is closest but it won't install gjs because xulrunner must be >=1.9.2 but I only have 1.9.1 at best.

EDIT: BTW, Maverick is based on sid which is quite a way ahead of squeeze.

  20. Re: Usb-modeswitch out of the box so that 3g dongles work?

  21. Poll: Re: Time to Get Rid of OpenOffice.org and Evolution?

I've just switched from Thunderbird to Evolution. I have always used OOo (Writer and Impress). No point to make here, just saying.
  22. Re: Usb-modeswitch out of the box so that 3g dongles work?

If you're referring to the "On Debian, this is not needed..." bit, then that applies to Ubuntu too.

And I've also found installing that package does not hide the storage device.
  23. Re: Usb-modeswitch out of the box so that 3g dongles work?

I'm using Debian Squeeze without the usb-modeswitch package on a 3g network, and it works fine.
